I wish I still looked that trim! 24 Hr Nautilus was the fashion then and I was working out all the time. I'm a big fat slob now... Photo taken from CINEFEX #13

This was one of the first matte paintings I did for the opening shot for Return of the Jedi. I guess it's considered a classic now, as it was filmed pre - digital although George Lucas did revamp several scenes digitally several years later. The area in white is where the live action, filmed on a set in England, would be matted in. There was a lot of pressure back then to make this movie a success and we were constantly asked to work faster. I came home many times with migraine headaches.....
The photo of the painting is taken from the book " From Star Wars to Indiana Jones, The Best of the LucasFilm Archives ", Chronicle Books. I will post day to day Star Wars images that I worked on to give some of you a feel of what I did in a prior life in a time long long ago.
Painted in oils and acrylics on glass.
