If your eyes are your best asset, yet you are abusing their appearance by slathering them with concealer, foundation, makeup, highlighter, makeup remover and cotton pads, then a good eye cream for young skin is vital for you.
Sometimes I read a magazine instead of a beauty blog, you never know if you may find a great tip. I came across an article about different eye skin problems and was delighted that they did not just mention wrinkles, sagging and darkness from ageing, but also the common dryness, maybe even dry lines you have at any age from tiredness or removing makeup. They mentioned a few products suitable for this problem, mostly expensive, and since I don't think luxury products are really necessary, I decided to go for the Yes To Carrots Moisturising Eye Cream, for 12 euros. Other reasons were that I wasn't sure where I could find the other brands, and also the names of the other brands kind of bothered me. Sometimes they recommended a gel. Gels have never felt moisturising to my skin. I've used the Nivea Q10 roller, a gel, and it put a dry film on my skin. It brought out the lines even more and sort of made my skin look saggy. Also, Yes To Carrots has a good reputation when it comes to their ingredients.
It contains dead sea minerals and no parabens. What does bother me is the whole idea that carrots would be good for the skin under the eyes. Um, hello, vitamin K is only good for your eyeballs and that is when you eat it! It's just like protein shampoo. Protein is only good for the hair if you eat it so it can go to your follicles.
These are the ingredients:
WATER (AQUA), CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE, GLYCERYL STEARATE SE, STEARIC ACID, ALOE BARBADENSIS (ALOE VERA) LEAF JUICE, CETEARYL OLIVATE, CETEARYL
ALCOHOL, SORBITAN OLIVATE, BUTYROSPERMUM PARKII (SHEA BUTTER), PROPANEDIOL, DAUCUS CAROTA SATIVA (CARROT) ROOT EXTRACT*, SILT (DEAD SEA), TOCOPHEROL (VITAMIN E), IPOMOEA BATATAS TUBER (SWEET POTATO) EXTRACT*, CAMELLIA SINENSIS (GREEN TEA) LEAF EXTRACT*, SPIRULINA MAXIMA EXTRACT, PUNICA GRANATUM (POMEGRANATE) EXTRACT*, CITRUS AURANTIUM DULCIS (ORANGE) FRUIT EXTRACT, PERSEA GRATISSIMA (AVOCADO) OIL, PRUNUS AMYGDALUS DULCIS (SWEET ALMOND) OIL, SIMMONDSIA CHINENSIS (JOJOBA) SEED OIL, OLEA EUROPAEA (OLIVE) FRUIT OIL, HONEY EXTRACT, XANTHAN GUM, GLYCERIN, RETINYL PALMITATE, MAGNESIUM ASCORBYL, PHOSPHATE , PHENOXYETHANOL , POTASSIUM SORBATE, FRAGRANCE (PARFUM)
As you can see it does contain a so called fatty alcohol. It is considered safe for use. But is it good, you think? Well, this product does contain a lot of organic ingredients, so it does need some kind of stabilizer. There is no way to avoid that. I actually bought this at a more alternative cosmetics store called Essenza, which doesn't necessarily mean it's a natural product (see my article on shampoo ingredients). But looking at all the plants in this is looks for more natural than a shampoo.
Result: this cream does not dry on top of the skin. It sinks in and moisturises. It doesn't sting, it feels very soft. It will last you a long time. It hasn't made my eyes puffy. I don't have enough lines or dryness to be able to really tell if there is a difference in those areas. I can say that the area feels taken cared after, it feels relieved and moisturised. It feels nice and smooth, fatty in a lovely way, not oily, not shiney.
My tips are: never apply before bed, especially not on the eyelid as this will irritate your eyes more and will make them puffy. Apply it with your fingers, tap your skin, from outside to inside to stimulate bloodflow from the part of your cheeks that have more blood to the inner corner of your eyes. Preferably do not use makeup on top of eyecream unless you powder enough so it doesn't look all wet under the eye.
I do recommend this product more than any other eye product I have tried so far. Those were the Nivea Q10 roller gel, Nivea Hydra IQ eye cream, Essence cucumber roller (which stings by the way).
hope you learned something!
